Introducing International Speaker – Christopher Patnoe

Christopher Patnoe is the Head of Accessibility Programs and Disability Inclusion for Google. He leads Google’s efforts around the accessibility of product, people (both Googler and end users) and partnerships.

He has more than 20 years experience in tech working at companies like Apple, Sony Ericsson and Disney where he’s built hardware, software, and services.

His current passion is Accessibility at the intersection of immersive technologies (AR/VR) and consumer hardware. He is the chair for the Immersive Captions Community Group with the W3C, is a co-Chair of the XR Association Accessibility Working Group, and sits on the Board of Trustees for the American Foundation for the Blind and the GAAD Foundation.

Christopher has a degree in Music from UC Berkeley.

Introducing our Keynote Speaker – NZ Disability Rights Commissioner, Paula Tesoriero MNZM

Paula Tesoriero is New Zealand’s Disability Rights Commissioner. It is her role to protect and promote the rights of disabled New Zealanders.

Paula is Chef de Mission for the NZ Paralympic team heading to Toyko. She is also a Paralympian cycling gold medalist, a former lawyer,  was a general manager at Stats NZ and at the Ministry of Justice. She is a life trustee with the Halberg Foundation, and has held a range of governance roles on various Boards, and she is a mum.

Getting there and parking

Getting there

Located in central North Island, Rotorua is less than 3 hours drive from Auckland and 90 minutes from Hamilton. All major NZ cities have direct flights to Rotorua, with connecting flights to many others.

The conference venue is the Novotel Rotorua Lakeside
Address: Lake End, Tutanekai Street, Rotorua 3010.

The hotel is a 10 minute drive from Rotorua Airport.

Parking

There is free parking, including accessible parking, on-site as well as street parking.

COVID-19

COVID-19

We will be following NZ Government COVID-19 guidelines of health and safety around events. We encourage all attendees to:

  • Sign in daily using the NZ Covid Tracer app, or contract tracing register
  • Stay home if they are sick
  • Practice good hygiene protocols, including regular hand washing and sanitising

Should Government Alert Levels prevent us from holding the conference, an alternative date (approximately 8 weeks later) will be set.

Further COVID-19 protocols will be communicated with conference attendees closer to the event.

Accessibility

Accessibility

When registering for the conference, attendees will be asked for their accessibility requirements. All requests for accommodation will be actively addressed, and where necessary attendees will be contacted for further information.

The venue has been confirmed to have basic accessibility features, and has accessible rooms available. Features include:

  • Wheelchair access to entrance/exit, lifts 
  • Accessible bathrooms 
  • Accessible parking available 
  • Accessibility ramps 
  • Guide dogs and other registered assistance dogs are welcome in all areas.

All videos played at the conference will be captioned and audio described, with transcripts available upon request.

Printed materials will be made available as digital versions on the website, and can be made available in accessible formats upon request.

The conference is hosted by Novotel Rotorua Lakeside Hotel and accomodation with the hotel is offered to attendees of the conference.

Substitutions 

  • If, after booking, you are unable to attend, you are welcome to nominate someone else to attend in your place. 
  • Tickets cannot be shared.

Cancellation policy 

  • Refunds are available 28 days before the event. No refunds under 28 days.
  • Covid-19 Interuptions – In the event of a Covid-19 level change that prevents us running the conference, an alternative date will be set approximately 8 weeks later. Further details will become available on our website.
